Mitch Hanlon

A dedicated musical director and educator based in Fullerton, California, Mitch Hanlon has spent over four decades shaping the Southern California music scene. His extensive experience spans musical theater, opera, and live concert performance, including his longtime role as assistant conductor to Maestro John Mauceri for the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. In that position, Mr. Hanlon contributed to more than 300 performances and served as both conductor and soloist at the iconic venue.
Mr. Hanlon's academic legacy includes more than 25 years at California State University, Fullerton, where he served as professor of musical theater, voice department head, and coordinator of the BFA in Musical Theater. He led numerous university productions and helped launch the New York City Showcase, giving graduating students exposure to Broadway professionals. His mentorship has influenced a generation of vocalists and performers across the country.
In addition to his university work, Mitch Hanlon taught at prominent institutions such as the Thornton School of Music at USC, Cal Poly Pomona, Saddleback College, and Cypress College. A sight-reading pianist and musical coach, he continues to work privately with students and local productions. Outside the classroom and stage, he is the music director at First Christian Church Fullerton and an active community volunteer with the Elks, supporting veterans and youth programs through national grants.
